The genre of my music magazine is mostly alternative music but i also included elements of glossy magazines such as fashion and photography. alternative music is a genre thoroughly enjoy listening to, and the culture and style surrounding it influences me and lots of other people. There is still a reasonably large fan base for it. Also, I had the knowledge that alot of magazine focus on this genre but not many team it up with fashion and more girly qualities so there is a place in the market, therefore, no competition.
I was heavily influenced by classic rock magazine during the designing process, noticing that over they care more about the music and contents of their magazine more then advertising. Every single issue follows set conventions, but there covers change all the time making dramatic statements. The uncommercial, quirky, bold approach to the design is very appealing to me, and goes perfectly with my chosen music genre. The specific magazine cover i looked at had a bold main image with little text and i thought this was very different so this is how i set my magazine lay out.
The name of my magazine if 'flawless' this word gives the impression that everything is perfect and pristine, but the way i have written the word is scruffy and edgy. this connotes that everybody tries to be flawless but really there's something wrong about everyone. this would also appeal to the younger generation as its rebellious and unconventional. i have placed the masthead behind the model and across the top of my page in the conventional sense. i did this because the rest of my magazine isn't very conventional because I don't have much text or advertising on my front page, so the ordinary layout of my masthead helps people to know what it actually is.
i composed my image to look like a good and bad side of my model. my front image its soft and calm, where as the back image is harsh and violent. to help connote this i made my model wear a white shirt this is calming colour and also contrasts with harsh black jacket i have in my other image.her body language also helps portray this feel as shes playing the guitar in a conventional and in the other is ready to smash it up. my model is very young and would attract the younger audience because they could relate to her.
i have tried to use everyday teenage language to suit my target audience, but still using snippits of high register to make it slightly formal and easy to read for all ages. for my front and contents pages i have used short simple sentences to catch the readers eye and to make them informed quickly with out losing interest.
my magazine suggests alternative music because of the edgy masthead and intriguing, unconventional images. also my colour scheme of red, black and white are all powering colours this makes my magazine different and individual.
my contents page follows conventions because i have included regular features and exclusives i have also added two main images and an extra two to make my work look effective. i have also included a special competition which would interest my readers into buying the magazine.
for my double page spread i have one main image which is the background for my whole spread. i added text to just one side and included drop caps, gutters and sidebars to make it look professional. i also added a page number, website and an exclusive banner. i think that my double page spread is affective because its a very bold image and relates to all three of my ideas such as fashion, photography and music.
overall my magazine combines well as i have stuck to specific colour scheme. this could be the trademark of the magazine and would be recognisable to my audience. the theme is teenage, alternative style and i have tried to portray this by using interesting, edgy images and slang words to relate to the audience.
